Pangong Tso

Pangong Tso

Mytholigized, filmed but no less missable. The Pangong Tso is the world’s highest saltwater lake that looks better than it does on any Instagram post or movie. Cradled by the Himalayas, this little oasis can take your breath with its picture perfect views, but really is best enjoyed by just being present.

Khardung La Pass

How high is high? The answer, at least when it comes to one of the highest motorable pass in India, lies in the mighty Khardung La Pass. The pass enjoys legendary status among riders and adventurers around the world and with good reason. It’s a feat of humanity matched only by a view unmatched in Leh - or the world.

Thiksey Monastery

Thiksey Monastery

12 stories, 10 temples, 120 monks. The Thiksey Monastery truly is one of a kind. Perched on a hill overlooking the Indus Valley, it’s also easy to spot with its traditional yet striking architecture enjoying a higher place and status. More wonders lie inside with a rich collection of Buddhist scriptures, relics, and arts, replete with a 50ft high stature of Maitreyi Buddha. A must visit.

Leh Palace

The history of Leh is part of its cultural fabric, and it remains etched in the walls of this former abandoned 17th century palace. Once the home of Ladhaki royalty, the nine story building is a reflection of traditional Tibetan architecture with its high windows, wooden balconies, and flat roofs. Inside, the palace houses its own museum where you’ll discover ancient artefacts like Thangkas and royal garments, and above all, a taste of what it means to live like royalty.

Nubra Valley

Nubra Valley

Just beyond Khardung La Pass lies a jaw dropping expanse that still remains relatively untouched. Curiously called “the valley of flowers”, it’s anything but. Nubra Valley is a cold desert framed by majestic mountains, complete with lush green patches, deep blue water bodies, and even its very own hot springs. If that’s not enough, there’s a high chance you’ll spot the rare two humped Bactrian camel. In a word: surreal.

Leh Bazaar

If you’re looking to punctuate the serenity of Leh with a bit of buzz, look no further than Leh Bazaar. It’s a window to the soul of the city offering everything from wood-carved decor to beautiful pashmina shawls. Find yourself there towards the evening, and you could even catch a traditional dance or a musical performance. It’s centrally located and the centre of attention.
